Carpet Cleaning and Care
Carpet Cleaning Tips from a Professional
Here are some simple ideas that will help to keep you carpets looking new. Your carpets are an important part of your home and it is not difficult to do things that enhance their appearance and give them a longer life.
1. Wipe Your Feet!
Get everyone to do it. It may seem simple but if even one person is not wiping their feet it can really contribute to a dirty carpet. Make sure you have a nice wiping mat at the regular entry points into your home.
Also, consider making your home a shoe-free zone. We stopped allowing shoes in the house years ago and it has had a big positive impact on our carpets.
2. Vacuum Frequently
Vacuum heavily trafficked sections of your home’s carpets one to two times per week. Less trafficked sections can be vacuumed once a week.
You need to vacuum your carpet on a regular basis. It’s the only way to suck up dirt and debris which can damage your carpets. However, you don’t want to overdo it. Vacuuming too often can also wear your carpet down. If you have a puffy carpet it may end up flat before very long.
Vacuuming your carpet once a week is enough to keep it looking its best. If you are worried about your carpet fibers getting damaged in highly trafficked areas, step it up to two vacuums a week in just those areas. If you have people take their shoes off at the door (part of tip #1) then this will also help significantly to cut down on carpet wear and tear.
3. Remove Spots and Stains Quickly
It is important to clean up a spill on your carpet quickly. Don’t let it set. You can make your own spot cleaner by mixing ¼ teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent (without bleach) with 1 cup of cold water. Make sure to rinse the area thoroughly. In addition, there are many fine organic or pet-friendly spot removers but still do a good rinse.
The key point is to not let a stain set. If it sets in then it is much harder to clean and the cleaning may result in more carpet damage.
4. Shampoo Your Carpets
Upkeep could also mean shampooing your carpet occasionally. This is especially important for people with pets and children. It will definitely give your carpet that fresh new look and help your carpet to look new longer.
5. Bring In The Pros
