Upper Valley Home Cleaning
When you really get down to it there are multiple layers to a clean and organized house. I typically think of 3 distinct layers.
There is the base layer, then the organization layer and then the sparkling clean layer – this layer is the ultimate – the pinnacle – it is what we all strive for if a clean and organized home is our goal.
In my opinion, a clean and organized house is the most comfortable. Things are in their place. You don’t spend time looking for things that have been misplaced. You don’t care when people just drop by for a chat or a cup of coffee and it is still a home you can relax in and enjoy.
Let’s break down the individual layers.
Layer One – The Daily Stuff & General Organization
This is the cleaning layer that isn’t a project. It is everything that needs to be done based on simply living in the space. Washing the dishes so that the sink is cleared and clean . . . taking out the trash . . . clearing away the junk mail and print advertising that was in the mail box (that you never seem to get around to reading).
This layer has to be dealt with for you to have any chance of reaching the ultimate – a clean and organized house. These items can be dealt with simply by having good habits and some thoughtful organization.
Have a habit to rinse dishes and place them in the dishwasher instead of letting them pile up in the sink. Wash pots and pans and put them in the drying rack. Keep the counter tops clear and clean and the odd dish or dirty glass will stand out and beg to be cleaned and put away.
Set up some trash bins to help with the trash. Have a recycle bin, a glass bin and a pure-trash bin in or near the kitchen. Set up the equivalent in the garage so that there is a well-defined system and everyone knows the system.
You can do the same with laundry. Have a “whites” hamper and a “dark-clothes” hamper. Nothing is thrown on a chair or on the floor.
As you can see this layer is primarily a general “good habits” layer. It can be argued that this is the most important layer. If you set up and keep up with this layer, it doesn’t even feel like a layer.
Layer Two – Decluttering
This layer deals with extra “stuff”. I could also state that this layer is primarily stuff without a home or perhaps most of all – stuff that doesn’t need to be there in the first place. Give this some serious thought. If something does not have a permanent place it may not need to be there. Determine if you can remove it – permanently.
An example may be a stack of magazines that has been there (and perhaps growing) for 2 years. It is not clutter per se and looks relatively organized (the magazines may even be stacked in chronological order). The stack of magazines is not a daily item like a stack of dirty dishes. However, it does not need to be there and should be removed.
If items such as these are not dealt with then it will not be possible to reach the pinnacle – to have the ultimate clean home. Remove clutter so cleaning can happen.
Layer Three – Cleaning
This layer is the weekly (or kinda-weekly) things like vacuuming, mopping and dusting.
This is the layer that puts the “icing on the cake” – the crowning accomplishment – the luxury of a clean and organized home. This is the layer where A Clean Vision can help. We put that sparkle on the sink faucets, get the mirrors to have a perfect reflection and make sure that there are no cobwebs or dust bunnies.
